Bacall was born Betty Joan Perske in New York City in 1924. She began her career as a model before being discovered by Howard Hawks, who cast her in "To Have and Have Not." The film was a critical and commercial success, and Bacall quickly became a star.

Marriage to Humphrey Bogart

In 1945, Bacall married Humphrey Bogart, one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. The couple had two children together, Stephen and Leslie.
